Frequently Asked Questions About Laser Skin Resurfacing
What skin conditions does the micro fractional CO2 treat?
The Mixto Laser is used to treat signs of aging such as fine lines and moderate wrinkles, uneven pigmentation such as age and sun spots, and skin laxity.
How does the micro fractional CO2 laser resurfacing treatment work?
The Mixto laser delivers a therapeutic matrix of tiny laser energy columns to the skin. Dr. Webb will vary the intensity and depth of the energy depending upon the quality of skin and the desired result. This stimulates new collagen production, resulting in smoother, younger, and healthier skin.
What is meant by “fractional”?
Conventional lasers work by non-specifically ablating the entire surface of the skin. Untreated skin is left to provide the necessary building blocks for efficient healing. Fractional means that microscopically a fraction of untreated/undamaged skin is left to promote efficient healing and a safe, predictable result.
What areas can be treated?
Fractional CO2 laser treatments can safely be performed on the face, neck, chest, and hands.
What to Expect from a Laser Resurfacing Treatment
Prior to treatment, Dr. Webb will decide if you are a candidate for the treatment and what areas would be beneficial as well as discuss the expected results. A single treatment is usually all that is necessary, but for severe sun damage or severe scarring, a second treatment may be scheduled 2 to 3 months later.
The treatment is done in the luxurious comfort of Webb Aesthetic Medical Spa. We provide a mild oral sedative and a topical numbing gel for the skin to ensure your comfort during the procedure. For a full face, neck, and chest, treatment time is approximately 30 to 45 minutes.
Following the treatment, you will experience a slight burning sensation similar to a sunburn for approximately 2 to 3 hours. A fine pinpoint pattern will be present on the skin as a result of the column of therapeutic laser beams. You will be given post-op instructions and products to keep the treatment areas moist as well as post-op pain medication for continued comfort.
- Day 1 to 3: The pinpoint pattern will begin to fade, and the skin will have a tanned appearance.
- Day 4 to 6: The top layer of skin will begin to peel, and makeup can be applied.
- Day 6 to 8: The skin will usually have completely peeled at this point to reveal rejuvenated skin with improved texture and color.
Avoid prolonged sun exposure for 3 months and apply sun block every day. Continued improvement of fine lines and wrinkles will continue over the next several months as new collagen is produced.
