How does the laser remove a tattoo?
The laser works by producing highly concentrated pulses of laser energy that pass through the top layers of the skin and are selectively absorbed by the tattoo pigment, breaking the ink into tiny particles. The body’s lymphatic system then removes the residual ink particles, causing the tattoo to fade or disappear completely.

The laser wavelengths can be selected to target a wide range of tattoo ink color, giving you maximum flexibility to treat a variety of tattoos with excellent results in as little as a few treatments. Adjustable spot sizes let you treat the smallest and biggest areas with ease and efficiency. Black, red, dark blue, and dark orange respond the best, requiring fewer treatments for complete clearing. Harder to treat colors such as yellow, green, and purple may require additional treatments to achieve the same clearing. But with time, nearly all tattoos can be removed using our technology.
Do laser tattoo removal treatments hurt?
Stinging, like the snap of a rubber band on the skin, can be expected with standard treatment. If you wish, numbing cream or injections of lidocaine can be provided. Posttreatment sensations are similar to a mild feeling of sunburn. Post-operatively, the tattoo reacts similarly to when it was originally applied into the skin. Light bleeding, scabbing, and soreness can be expected. Our staff will educate you on how to safely manage the wound by using effective skin ointments and sterile bandages. You must take care of your treated tattoo, as directed by our physicians, to obtain the best result for a successful removal. Most treatments do not require anesthetics, though some patients feel more comfortable with local numbing agents.
How many laser treatments are required to remove a tattoo?
The results and appearance of the tattoo vary from patient to patient. After each treatment session, you will see the tattoo become lighter. Due to the various types of the inks used in tattooing, the results and the number of treatments may vary. Typically, multiple treatments will be required and are scheduled 4 to 8 weeks apart. Depending on the size and location of the tattoo, each treatment will take about 10-20 minutes. On average, a tattoo can be removed in 5 to 10 sessions, depending on the factors mentioned above.
